Roleplaying

Ah l’rpg, je t’aime! I began roleplaying back in Grade 6 when Orion’s aunt leant him the AD&D Player’s Handbook (the edition before the brutish guy knocking the door in). It was a perfect extension of running around on the playground acting out the cheesy fantasy novels brewing in my head. Since then I played on and off; in Grade 8 I discovered GURPS and fell in love with the flexibility and the realism it offered. Now GURPS 4e is my system of choice, though those in my core ‘group’ back in London slide around on their preferences, so until recently I’d very rarely got to actually play GURPS unless I ran the game, and found myself playing lots of the various White Wolf flavoured games amid some d20.

If you have absolutely no clue what any of that means, start here.

I went through a period where I tried to ignore the fact that I roleplayed because of the mild social stigma it carries or whatever, but now I’m mature enough and secure enough to flaunt it to the masses. I think rpgs are one of the coolest past-times ever. Combine acting, storytelling, character development, and interactive (mind)movies and you get something that it’s not too hard to see that I might be drawn to. I’m definitely more into the character and plot development aspect than the hack’n'slashery or rulesmongering, though I understand that both have their place.

Currently I’m involved in several campaigns, and a few of them are represented online:

NORTHENDEN – is a GURPS/Harn campaign I began in Summer 2004. It runs when I’m in London and not Hamilton, and I hope it continues to run for many years. It could easily be called the most successful campaign I’ve run. I’m quite proud of it.
AD INFINITUM – a new postmodern GURPS Infinite Worlds campaign located in Hamilton.
All the Pretty Little Campaigns – lined up in a row. In the past there have been many, many campaigns that came to timely or premature ends. This is an attempt to document them for the ages. Many will surely be forgotten
